Okay, here are Chris & Simon's comments from LofA at Worlds. Funnily
enough, I don't actually know which voice belongs to whom, but from
reading the other posts I guess that Simon is the one who calls most of
the jumps, and Chris adds his thoughts. Hope that's right!
(Alexei's opening sequence)
S: Triple axel-triple toe loop!
(skating before judges, building up speed...)
S & C both: OH! Quad!
S: Quad-toe!
C: And he really is on-song tonight. All three jumps have been just
about perfect.
(moving in circle...)
S: Oh! Tremendous triple axel!
C: For a moment I thought he'd given it too much and almost
over-rotated.
(beautiful, quiet segment, such poise and smoothness in choreography...)
S: Triple flip-triple toe. Five triples in all now, plus the quad. And
*so* much improved choreography.
(drum beats...footwork...love it!)
S: Triple loop! He cannot miss!
(lovely expressive passage, crowd cheering...)
S: The lutz, triple number seven.
(music builds, triple salchow perfect, he punches the air. I think S & C
are in awe at this point, LOL! Final spins... end!)
S: Yes! That's surely the winner! (they show Tatiana, delighted) And
there's the lady who's added so much to his skating. We've known he's
had the jumps for years, but she's added the maturity and the
choreography, and maybe the confidence. Surely we're looking at a man
who's retained his world title. If anybody beats that, well, we'd be
delirious.
C: Yeah, I can't think for a moment that that program's going to be
beaten. The Americans, the Canadians, everybody is on their feet! That
was a *phenomenal* performance! He kisses the ice, rightly so. The
performance of his life! Just the quality of the jumps were second to
none. And such a clever program, put together so there's time for him to
get his breath back and still building on the second mark all the time.
Although he's getting his breath, the choreography marks are building
all the time. And technically, he was just *unbelievable* tonight.
(Tatiana hugging Alexei excitedly )
S: I think she's pleased with him!
C: Well, wouldn't you be!
(replays of jumps and performance)
C: Well, he was good at Euros, but he was *magical* tonight! Here's this
quad - he comes out with almost the same speed as he went in.
(show a slow part with Alexei using his arms for expression)
C: Fantastic choreography, and it was all designed facing the judges.
The view that the judges would've got would have been better than ours.
S: Just look at that expression!
C: Well, he was totally exhausted at the end.
(in the K & C, waiting for the marks)
S: Yes, so much adrenalin. Look at that, a perfect six for technical!
Confirmation that surely we are looking at the world champion. It's not
over yet but surely he's taken it out of reach from even Plushenko at
his best. |
